Students at Mount Calvary St. Lawrence Seminary High School showed their holiday spirit by helping to make Christmas a little brighter for the families of area prison inmates.
This year St. Lawrence again supported the Angel Tree Prison Ministry Project. Through Angel Tree, St. Lawrence sponsored 110 children from the Fond du Lac, Green Bay and Sheboygan areas by purchasing Christmas gifts that were given to them in the name of their parent who is in prison. Each child received two gifts, one of clothing and a toy.
Juniors traveled with Seminary staff members to purchase the gifts. All of the shopping for the program is done in the local Fond du Lac area (about $5,000 worth of shopping). The freshman class members wrote Christmas cards to the prisoners. A letter was included with each card telling the prisoner what they gave their children for Christmas. Sophomores gathered to wrap the gifts, and members of the senior class, accompanied by staff members, delivered all of the gifts to each family’s home. Each family is also given a fruit basket.
Money for the project was collected at the weekend Eucharistic Celebrations during the second quarter of the school year.
