Dinner/theatre show planned at Gloria Dei
It is going to be a long week at the Peaceful Pines Sanitarium as three murders have occurred and it is only Monday.
That is the premise behind Pat Cook's "Three Murders and It's Only Monday!," the latest zany comedy to be staged by The Not Yet Ready for Divine Time Players at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church.

The Kiel FFA Parliamentary Procedure Team
The Kiel FFA Parliamentary Procedure Team won the Section IX Championships. During the Parliamentary Procedure Career Development Event teams conduct a mock chapter meeting to demonstrate their knowledge of basic parliamentary law and the correct use of parliamentary procedures.

Clean-up activites in NH
Several spring clean-up activities are planned in the coming weeks in the city of New Holstein.
On Saturday, April 25 from 8 a.m. to noon the city will offer a heavy refuse drop-off at the Public Works garage, 1319 Taft Ave. A driver's license will be required to prove residency. Lists of accepted and non-accepted items can be found on the city's Web site,

Bulky item pick-up to start April 20
The City of Chilton will hold its bulky item pick-up for city residents this spring.
Pick-up is on two separate days-April 20 for residents living north of Main Street and April 27 for residents living south of Main Street. Pick-up will begin at 5 a.m. each day by Advanced Disposal Services (ADS). Residents can bring items out to the curbside beginning the Thursday prior to the pick-up day.
Once ADS passes a location, the company will not double back to pick up anything brought out after. Thus, it is imperative for people to get their items to the curb before 5 a.m. on the Monday of pick-up.

City of Chilton officials have donated a parcel of land to Habitat for Humanity.
The land, located at the corner of Center Street and Graves Street in the city of Chilton, was presented to Habitat for Humanity representatives Barry O'Connor and Vaya Kiel on April 2.

Meuer Farm receives state awards
Meuer Farm, LLC of Chilton was recently recognized by the Wisconsin Ag Tourism Association as the Wisconsin Ag Business of the Year.
Winning the award for the second time in three years, David and Leslie Meuer accepted the award at the Wisconsin Ag Tourism Association (WATA) State Convention held March 30 in Baraboo.

Administrators at Divine Savior Catholic School recently announced third quarter honor roll students.
To be eligible for the A Honor Roll a student must have a grade point average from 3.5-4.0 without any check marks for effort.
B Honor Roll students must have a grade point average from 3.0-3.5 without any check marks for effort. An asterisk (*) indicates a 4.0 GPA.

The Bond Brigade
The Kiel High School robotics team, otherwise known as the Bond Brigade Team 5586, was awarded the prestigious Rookie All-Star Award at the Wisconsin Regional Competition in March, qualifying them for an opportunity to compete in the FIRST (For the Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Robotics World Championship in St. Louis, Mo.

Maple Syrup Sunday held at Ledge View
Ledge View Nature Center delighted visitors with a weekend long re-enactors encampment culminating with a maple syrup breakfast on Sunday, March 29.
Re-enactors set up camp on Friday, March 27 and continued through early Sunday to portray life from the 1780s to the 1880s. Fur trading, crafting demonstrations, campfires and more allowed visitors to check out living history.

Ribbon cutting at Pathways to a Better Life
Along with the Chamber of Manitowoc County, Pathways to a Better Life owner Sue Beattie (front right) and Administrator Christina Bies were all smiles as they cut the ribbon at a ceremony opening the new substance abuse treatment center in rural Kiel. Beattie, a New Holstein native, said the day was a dream come true and that she looks forward to helping people in need.

Summer school program keeps students active
The Kiel Area School District's summer school program will be held FROM June 16 through July 14th.
Classes are held Monday through Thursday from 7:30 a.m. to noon.
Registration is currently open and will close April 24th. All registration is completed online by going to the Kiel website

Stockbridge Board reviews road issues
Town of Stockbridge officials discussed town roads and equipment during the April regular meeting of the Town Board.
According to Town Road Supervisor Jerry Ortlieb, the town's new plow truck is almost ready for delivery. Road weight limits were also discussed with Ortlieb advising the board the weight limits will be removed April 13. A resident present at the meeting told board members manure hauling semi trucks were seen operating on posted roads. Ortlieb also told the board the town's road crew is preparing equipment for the spring.

NH School District among recipients of DWD grants

Chilton again has singer on FFA Honors Chorus
Chilton continues to have representation on the Wisconsin State FFA Honors Chorus with the selection of Kasey Burg for the 2015 State Honors Chorus.
This will be Burg's fourth consecutive year participating with the chorus. Wisconsin State FFA Honors Chorus Director Pete Engh said this year's chorus was selected from over 90 applicants from throughout Wisconsin to represent their communities and the state FFA organization in public performances at the Wisconsin State FFA Convention and the Wisconsin State Fair.

Reservations accepted for Community Garden
Calumet Medical Center's (CMC) Community Garden is preparing for its second growing season by further beautifying the area with landscaping and planning educational workshops.
Reservations are currently being accepted for the 15x20 foot plots located on Brooklyn Street south of the New Hope Center where any area individual or group is welcome to plant a vegetable or flower garden.

Storm spotter training slated in Calumet Co.
Severe weather spotter training will be offered at Chilton City Hall located at 42 School St. on Tuesday, April 14.
Meteorologists from the Green Bay office of the National Weather Service will provide free onsite training to area residents beginning at 6:30 p.m. "Although the NWS has access to data from Doppler radar, satellite and surface weather stations, technology cannot detect every instance of hazardous weather," Calumet County Emergency Management Director Matthew Marmor said.

Sattler Farm honored by Sheep Breeders
Sattler Farm Lamb of Chilton was recently honored with a special award from the Wisconsin Sheep Breeders Cooperative.
The Sattler family was honored with the 2015 Commercial Master Shepherd Award at the 2015 Recognition Banquet held recently in Arlington. They were unable to attend to personally accept the award as they were busy promoting their farm and the sheep industry with their popular annual Open Barn event which was held Saturday, March 14.

Premier offers scholarship
Premier Financial Credit Union is offering one $400 high school scholarship.
The scholarship is open to any member of Premier Financial Credit Union. A member, by definition, is any individual who has their own account at Premier Financial Credit Union. An applicant must be a member by Nov. 1 of the year prior to the award-not a secondary account holder-who is currently a full-time high school senior and a member of the graduating class of 2015.

Youth Theatre highlights kids on stage
Youngsters will now be afforded more opportunities to explore the arts with the newly formed Kiel Area Youth Theatre.
The program was started by eager local parents who saw a lack of opportunities for young students to get involved on stage, so they band together to form the group earlier this year.

Road to recovery
Tucked into its rural Kiel setting off of Lax Chapel Road, Pathways to a Better Life treatment center will open doors on April 13.
Sue Beattie and her staff have been working tirelessly to get the property and their new program ready to begin treating substance abuse patients in the area.
Beattie said that after all the time and hard work, she is happy to see the ribbon cutting date approach on her calendar.
"It's been a long process getting to this point, but we are all very excited for what's ahead," she said.

Utility, street work to begin shortly
Utility and street construction bids for work on Paine and St. Paul Streets were awarded March 24 to Dorner Inc. of Luxemburg, WI.
Kiel's City Council awarded the project to Dorner, who was the lowest bidder at $836,959.

A Hoppy Easter in the park
The Kiel Optimists Club held its annual Easter Egg Hunt in Hingiss Park over the holiday weekend.
With the help of donations and volunteers, kids from the Kiel and surrounding area gather in the park and weathered the crisp breeze to search the grounds for eggs and other prizes.

Michael J. Mangan, 56, of 14210 Rokilio Rd., Kiel, appeared in Manitowoc County Circuit Court on Thursday, April 2 in connection with the reported disturbance Monday near the cemetery in which Trooper Trevor Casper was being buried.
