Middle School orientation planned for next Tuesday
Orientation for students entering New Holstein Middle School and their parents is planned for next Tuesday, May 26 starting at 6 p.m.
The purpose of the meeting is to help students make the transition from the Elementary School to the Middle School facility as smooth and stress-free as possible.

Seniors graduate Friday from NHHS
New Holstein High School's Class of 2015 is scheduled to graduate this Friday evening in the commencement ceremony starting at 6:30 p.m. in the High School gymnasium.

NH Memorial Day program planned
New Holstein's Memorial Day program is scheduled to be held at the City Cemetery on Monday, May 25, according to Tom DeTroye, commander of New Holstein American Legion Post #124.
All residents of the area are invited to participate in the observance, which will begin with a parade at 10:15 a.m. The parade will start at BMO Harris Bank and proceed up Wisconsin Avenue to the cemetery.

Seniors dance night away at School
The New Holstein FFA's and FFA Alumni's annual Senior Citizen Prom was held last Saturday night at the High School and, as always, was a big success. About 125 people were in attendance to dance the night away to the music of the Jerry Schneider Band.

School officials say cup calls scam, not actual fundraiser
New Holstein School District administrators said calls being made to local businesses about a fundraiser involving the district are a scam.
Ty Maki, director of curriculum and instruction, said representatives of two local businesses contacted the district Tuesday morning to say a company has been soliciting money on behalf of the district.

A community garden is scheduled to open in New Holstein in late May.
The garden is being coordinated through the Calumet Activity and Nutrition (U-CAN) coalition, which is a part of the Calumet County Health Division and community partnerships for healthy living. The goal of U-CAN is to empower Calumet County residents to build and embrace healthy lifestyles through education and wellness opportunities.

More charges, details in NH shooting case
Additional charges have been filed and additional details have been released regarding the April 29 shooting incident in the city of New Holstein.
As reported in last week's Tri-County News, Cody K. Meidam, 22, of Manitowoc was taken into custody in connection with the case. He is charged with felony burglary while armed with a dangerous weapon and misdemeanor bail jumping.

Sixty five students from Lakeshore Technical College were inducted into the Beta `Lamda Sigma Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society on April 2 at the Lakeshore Culinary Institute. A reception for the new inductees was held prior to the ceremony. Thirty six inductees were in attendance for the ceremony.

The first Memory Cafe held at the New Holstein Public Library on Tuesday, April 21 was well attended, and more are planned.
Memory Cafes are for those experiencing early stage dementia, mild memory loss or cognitive impairment, and for family and friends of those affected. They provide an opportunity for lively discussions, information gathering, refreshments, camaraderie, and lots of creative fun.

New Holstein's FFA hosted their annual FFA banquet on Friday, April 17.
The evening started off with a spaghetti dinner with an awards ceremony following. Over 100 attendees witnessed many FFA members receive their membership degrees, certificates of participation and state level award. The FFA and FFA Alumni scholar awards were also presented to members who maintain high academic achievements in the classroom.

Madeline Schultz, 12, of Green Bay is this year's Poppy Princess in New Holstein.
She is the daughter of Thomas and Lisa Schultz and the granddaughter of New Holstein residents Carl and Pat Radandt, which qualified her to be the American Legion Auxiliary's Poppy Princess for 2015.

New Holstein police are investigating a report that several suspects entered a residence in the 2000 block of Railroad Street on Wednesday night, April 29 at 9 p.m. and that shots were fired with a male victim being struck.

Scholarship deadline May 1
The Reineck Family Scholarship, created by the late Margaret Reineck and her family, is available to all New Holstein High School graduates who are pursuing education at an accredited university, college, or technical college in a course or program leading to obtaining a degree in music or agriculture.
Scholarships are available for current students pursuing an undergraduate degree as well as those who are in pursuit of a master's, doctorate or other advanced degree in music or agriculture.

NH Project Citizen teams seeking help
Two New Holstein Middle School Project Citizen teams are encouraging the community's participation in their projects in the next week.
The "Water Is Life" team has declared next Wednesday, April 29 as "Water Wednesday." Their goal is to raise money for filtered drinking fountains at the Middle School. To raise money for doing so, they will be selling baked goods, bracelets and water bottles next Wednesday at the school.
