Published author Steve Rose signs his latest Packer book at an Altona Supper Club book signing.
There are tons of books about the Green Bay Packers, but none have the local twist that Steve Rose's latest work has.
Rose is a published author and he was in New Holstein at The Altona Supper Club last week Thursday for a book signing of his latest work called "Pea Soup for the Packer Heart: A Tribute to the World's Greatest Fans & Team."

Kiel Punt, Pass and Kick scheduled
The Kiel Optimist NFL Punt, Pass & Kick competition will be held Saturday, September 18 at the Kiel High School Football practice field (South of the Tennis Courts). Registration will begin at the conclusion of the morning Kiel Junior Raider Flag Football program around 11 AM. Competition is to begin as soon as the participants are registered, targeting 11:30 AM.

In what may be the future for small schools around the state, Stockbridge has become the second school in the past few weeks to drop its 11-man football team down to an 8-man program, a concept that was widely used in the 1930's and '40's.

Chilton players won two flights and finished in another as the Tigers took second place in their own girls tennis invitational last Friday.
Oshkosh Lourdes edged Chilton 27-26 to win the tournament.

Chilton goes 3-0 in volleyball opener
The 2010 volleyball season is off to a great start for Chilton.
The Tigers traveled to Omro last week Thursday where they won all three matches at a quadrangular. They beat the host Foxes 25-21, 25-11 before cruising past Random Lake 26-24, 25-20 and Plainfield Tri-County 25-17, 25-6.

In one of its most dominating efforts in years, the Chilton-Valders girls swim team swept all 11 events and crushed visiting Green Bay Southwest/Green Bay West 119-50 in a non-conference dual meet last week Tuesday at the Chilton Middle School pool.

Kiel athletes fare well at State Special Olympics
More than 2,000 people gathered in Eau Claire on August 7 and 8 to compete, coach or volunteer at the 2010 Special Olympics Wisconsin State Outdoor Sports Tournament. Athletes blew the crowd away with outstanding performances in softball, tee ball, bocce, golf and tennis.

Sarah Adams Run/Walk another big success
The 2nd Annual Sarah Adams Memorial Run/Walk took place under sunny skies on Saturday, August 14, at Kiel High School. Proceeds from the event benefit scholarships in memory of Adams, a former Kiel athlete who passed away in a tragic automobile accident in 2009. Proceeds also benefit the Kiel cross country program.

Three NH grads to cheer for Badgers
Jesse Gifford, Codi Klapperich and Alayna Muldoon have faced many challenges on the athletic field in their days as standout athletes at New Holstein High School.

But life has many different turns and their road has now taken the trio to the University of Wisconsin in Madison where they have already triumphed over their first big challenge as college students - becoming true UW Badgers. Probably not the way a sports fan might think they are Badgers.

Chance meeting on Fremont Street
In my haste to get out to Whistling Straits this morning, many duties at the office seemed to keep me chained to the desktop. Unaware that the tournament start had been delayed for three full hours, I tried to get on the road as soon as possible, wanting to catch some of the early golfers. What transpired was nothing short of a incredible chance encounter.

It's still foggy on the Straits!
The skies may be clear in Kiel, New Holstein and Chilton, but the story is quite different at Whistling Straits. On the shores of Lake Michigan, fog continues to be a problem. After the PGA Championship started three hours late, play has again been suspended officially at 10:53. Players are staying in position until the fog clears.
I will be reporting from throughout the tournament day from the Straits.

The start of the PGA Championship has been delayed this morning due to foggy conditions.
This statement from Leslie Stachowiak of the Media Relations team.
"Please know that there is an official fog delay. Once the fog has lifted and it is clear to play, the 1st starting time will be 30 minutes following that time."

The rain has stopped at Whistling Straits, but you wouldn't know from my Slazenger golf shirt. After things cleared up, I took a walk out to the back nine to watch a few practice rounds this morning. The jaunt from the media center to hole 12 & 15 and the return trip were enough to soak my shirt for the day.

Rain, rain go away. The PGA wants to play! It began innocently enough as a gentle rain about 10 a.m. But, suddenly the skies opened, dousing golfers, fans and reporters alike. Whistling Straits got a second major rainfall this morning, and the drops keep falling.

Storms soften Straits course
Early morning thundershowers have softened the course at Whistling Straits, and in the eyes of some experts have potentially added length to the 7,500 yard long PGA Championship venue. More rain is expected today with scattered showers in the forecast. The amounts could have an impact both on course length and the receptiveness of the greens.
