More than 2,000 people gathered in Eau Claire on August 7 and 8 to compete, coach or volunteer at the 2010 Special Olympics Wisconsin State Outdoor Sports Tournament. Athletes blew the crowd away with outstanding performances in softball, tee ball, bocce, golf and tennis.

| Sarah Adams Run/Walk another big success |
The 2nd Annual Sarah Adams Memorial Run/Walk took place under sunny skies on Saturday, August 14, at Kiel High School. Proceeds from the event benefit scholarships in memory of Adams, a former Kiel athlete who passed away in a tragic automobile accident in 2009. Proceeds also benefit the Kiel cross country program.

Kiel boys soccer coach John Adema and the Kiel Soccer Club put on the Little Kickers/Dutch Touch Soccer Camp for area youth last week at the Kiel Soccer Complex. Joining Adema with expert soccer instruction included four coaches from Holland: Frits Tiebackx; Jonathan Genee; Niels Sytsma; and Harmen de Boer; as well as UW-Fond du Lac soccer coach Craig Larson, former St. Mary's Springs and current Lakeland College standout player Brittney Smit, and Kiel soccer assistant coaches David Radder and Mike Bubolz.

| Falcons sweep Kiel |
Another tough one-run loss for the Kiel baseball team. Host Sheboygan Falls rallied from down 3-1 to beat the Raiders 5-4 in game one of a Eastern Wisconsin Conference twinbill last Thursday evening. It was Kiel's third one-run loss in conference play this season. Falls went onto take the nitecap 8-5 holding off a last inning Raider comeback bid.

Kiel and Plymouth battled it out for the team title at the 2010 Eastern Wisconsin Conference Boys Swimming & Diving Championships held at Kiel High School on Saturday, February 6. The Raiders held the lead with three events remaining, but Plymouth rallied to take home first place.
The 2010 WIAA State Boys Swimming and Diving Championships took place Friday, Feb. 19 at the UW Natatorium in Madison. Kiel's Nic and Tim Halverson each medaled in the 500 yard freestyle. The 17th Annual Raider Invitational was held in near-perfect conditions at Kiel High School.
Kiel girls placed third with 105 points trailing just champion Cedar Grove-Belgium (85) and runnerup Fond du Lac St. Mary's Springs (93). The Raiders beat four conference schools, three of which are conference title contenders with Kiel.

Despite a downpour, the 1st Annual Sarah Adams Memorial Run/Walk, part of the Kiel Picnic celebration, took place on Saturday, August 8.
Organizers of the event, Erick and Anne Adams, parents of Sarah, were extremely pleased with the turnout despite the inclement weather. Sarah Adams, a former Kiel High School athlete, passed away last winter in a traffic accident. Proceeds from this event are shared by the Sarah Adams Memorial Scholarship Fund and the Kiel Raider cross country program of which Sarah was a member. >A multi-million dollar renovation to Veterans Memorial Stadium in La Crosse greeted participants for Day 1 of the 114th Annual WIAA State Track and Field Championships.
Although some finals are held, most of Day 1 is preliminary round action. Area athletes competing on Day 1 included Kate Schabach (shot put), Ryan Birschbach (pole vault) and Jimmy Hall (400 dash) of New Holstein; Justin Juckem (100 dash), Jordan Pethan (hurdles), Cody Kurscheidt (3200 run) and the Chilton 3200 relay team; and from Kiel, Chris Barrette (hurdles) and Derek Rickert (triple jump).
The weather took a turn for the worse for Day 2 of the WIAA State Track Meet at UW-La Crosse, but area competitors reached the awards podium three different times. Alex Steiner of Chilton successfully defended his state 800 meter title, while the Chilton girls 3200 relay team and Kiel's Derek Rickert (long jump) also medaled.
