EDITORIAL: Thank you, Calumet Sheriff's Office

Kudos to City of New Holstein Alderperson Becca Mosier for pausing last Wednesday’s council meeting as representatives of Calumet County and the Sheriff’s Office were leaving the meeting.

Mosier appropriately thanked them for helping out the city over the past two months during its law enforcement challenges. The more than 60 people in the room provided a hearty round of applause before the men left.

While many people in the city have voiced a desire for the city to keep its Police Department, it is always comforting to know that the Sheriff’s Office is nearby and ready, willing and able to provide whatever assistance it can—just as it has done every day and for decades and decades in all the county’s municipalities. Wanting a PD is not a vote against the Sheriff’s Office. Citizens showed the respect they have for the CCSO with their applause.
