Favors school mask mandate

This past week we learned that our granddaughter was COVID positive.

She is under the age to be vaccinated. We don’t know where she contracted the disease be it in the community or at school. The rest of her family has been fully vaccinated but now have to stay at home with her because she cannot go back to school until the last week of September.

The vaccinated family members had to have a COVID test and all are negative. The parents now have to help the child with delayed homework via video, so she doesn’t get behind in school.

The nearby school district she is in presently has a mask optional policy in place at this time, like many other school districts. I checked the school’s website and found that as of Sept. 17, 19 people in the past week were out due to COVID. That, to me, seems like a pretty high number. With COVID still being highly infectious, how many more children and adults have to get sick before you decide it’s important to change to a mask mandate in schools?

The flu season is coming up and with children wearing masks maybe flu and cold season as well as COVID can be suppressed this year. Children taking the bus to and from school are mandated to wear masks. Please mandate masks in schools and get vaccinated if you’re eligible so we can get this disease under control.
