The Chilton Fire Department is being awarded a life-saving grain rescue tube to help prevent grain bin accidents in the community.
Grain bin entrapments account for dozens of fatalities each year and grain bin deaths have surged in 2019 and 2020 because of the wet harvest.
The grain rescue tube will be awarded through Nationwide’s Grain Bin Safety campaign, through which the insurer has awarded 152 rural fire departments with grain rescue tubes and training since 2014.
At least four fire departments have put their rescue tubes and training to action by rescuing workers trapped in grain bins.
