Chilton Public Library prepares for winter

Maybe it is that crispness in the air, the crunch of the leaves, or the sound of a light layer of ice that is on the windshield of the car, but we all know it—winter is coming.

With winter comes severe weather. Be it rain, snow or ice, it seems like we can get it all in Wisconsin—sometimes all in one day.

While the library does not often close due to weather, there are times when the weather is severe enough that the library does for the safety of staff and patrons. Normally those decisions are made just hours prior to having to close. That does not allow for a lot of time to get the word out to everyone in the community.

If the library does have to close early or open late due to the weather, there are several places you can check to find out the status of the library’s hours. The library will update both the library website (www.chiltonlibrary.org) and the library Facebook page (facebook.com/chiltonpubliclibrary). Community members can also check the library status on any of the local news stations.

If the library is closing early, we will update the digital sign and post signs on the doors. We also will update the phone message to indicate what time the library will close; however, if the library is opening late, we cannot get signs on the door or always get the digital display or phone message updated.

Our fall 2021 Virtual Storytime will be found on the Chilton Public Library YouTube channel. Unlike the Spring Virtual Storytime, viewers will not need a password to watch. And because Storytime is virtual doesn’t mean you can’t participate along with Ms. Glenny. Pick up your Storytime kit from the library. There are rhythm sticks, a scarf, egg shakers, letters and more, all to use while you follow along. We are requesting one kit per family. Storytimes will be posted to YouTube on Wednesdays by 10:30 a.m.
