City of New Holstein has 24 applicants for chief of police position

City of New Holstein Police and Fire Commission members announced Tuesday, July 13 that they have received 24 applications for the chief of police position.

The announcement came following a meeting of the commission held Tuesday.

The deadline for applications was July 9 after an extensive recruitment process.

Commission President Herbie Schreiner said, “We are pleased to have such a positive response to our posting for this position. We have a lot of work to do. Tonight, we reviewed our applicant pool to identify those who met our minimum qualifications. We narrowed down the applicant list to examining five candidates and we are excited to begin the interview process. Choosing our community’s new police chief is so critically important. Our interview and examination process is extensive and we appreciate the patience of our community as we want to make the best decision for the good of the police service.”

There are multiple phases of the hiring process that will follow including rounds of interviews and examinations. The Police and Fire Commission will continue with this process over the next few weeks.

City of New Holstein Police Officer Rob Baldwin is currently serving as the department’s officer in charge.
