City of New Holstein to end Waste Management contract as of Sept. 30

City of New Holstein alderpersons voted unanimously Wednesday evening, Sept. 15 to terminate the waste and recycling removal contract with Waste Management.

The contract will be terminated effective Sept. 30. The Common Council then approved a new contract with GFL to go into effect Oct. 1.

It remains to be seen whether or not garbage and recycling will be picked up this week by Waste Management. A GFL employee present at Wednesday’s meeting said Waste Management had not yet done their normal Monday pickup at his rural home outside New Holstein.

Waste Management agreed to mutually terminate the contract as has happened in other area communities including the cities of Kiel and Chilton. Poor service in recent months—attributed to difficulties in finding employees—led to municipalities wanting to terminate their contracts.
