Eagle statue now soars over downtown

A bald eagle taking flight above its nest is now a permanent fixture above Kiel’s downtown.

On Monday morning, Willy Bonde—with the help of family and others—put the finishing touches on erecting the large metal sculpture in the 500 block of Fremont Street.

The artwork was the idea of the Kiel River Walk District, Inc. Joan Lechler chaired a committee which she said worked with Bonde to create a “wow” project for the city’s downtown. Also serving on that committee have been Bob Schoenborn, Russ Horneck, Brian Post, and Steve Nothem.
