More than a century after he was killed in the line of duty, Marshal Edmund Hanske will soon be honored for his service to the Kiel community with a memorial in a prominent Kiel Park.

Plans underway within the Kiel Police Department to construct a memorial are beginning to take shape.

At the September 8 meeting of the Kiel City Council, the Council authorized payment of $1,000 to Landmark Landscapes for design services for the new monument.

The funds will be reimbursed at such time that a fundraising drive for the monument is completed.
