A two-vehicle accident on Tuesday, Jan. 19 around 7:10 a.m. in the town of Taycheedah caused serious injuries to a 17-year-old Malone boy and also injured three other people.
The names of the individuals have not yet been officially released by the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office but the seriously injured driver is reported to be a student at New Holstein High School.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, the boy was driving a pickup truck northbound on USH 151 near Ducharme Parkway in the four-lane area of the highway on Fond du Lac’s north side. The vehicle crossed through the median and struck a southbound pickup truck driven by an 18-year-old Manitowoc man.
A sheriff’s deputy said alcohol and speed were not factors in the crash. There was a light covering of snow on area roadways on Tuesday morning.
The 17-year-old driver was extricated from the vehicle and taken by the Theda Star emergency medical helicoper to Theda Clark Medical Center in Neenah with serious injuries. His passenger, a 14-year-old boy from Malone, suffered minor injuries and was taken to St. Agnes Hospital in Fond du Lac by Fond du Lac Ambulance where he was treated and released.
The driver of the southbound vehicle and his 37-year-old male passenger from Mishicot at first refused treatment but later went to St. Agnes where they were checked for minor injuries.
Also assisting at the scene were the State Patrol, Fond du Lac police, and the Fond du Lac County Highway Department. Several 911 calls were received notifying authorities of the crash.
