Few details are being released yet regarding a man who shot himself to death on Sunday, March 21 following a brief standoff with law enforcement officers in the town of Taycheedah.

According to the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Department, deputies responded around 12:15 a.m. to a report of an argument between a man and a woman which involved a firearm at a home in the town of Taycheedah.

Deputies interviewed the woman, then later stopped a vehicle that left the home at CTH WH and CTH W between Mount Calvary and St. Peter. Deputies found the man hiding in the trunk of the vehicle, and the man allegedly pulled out a gun. Deputies surrounded the vehicle and tried to negotiate with the man for several minutes before he shot himself. Deputies started medical treatment. The man was taken to a regional trauma center where he died.

Officials said no deputies were injured in the incident, nor did any deputies fire their weapons.

The Sheboygan County Sheriff’s Office is conducting an investigation of the shooting.
