Pantry hopes to build new, larger facility

Volunteers wear masks while negotiating the narrow doorways and hallways of the current pantry facility.

Officials of the Holyland Food Pantry, Inc.—a nonprofit organization located in Malone—have made the decision to acquire land with the intent to relocate and build a larger facility to serve as the new community food pantry.

The current facility near St. Paul United Church of Christ cannot be remodeled, and is no longer large enough to handle the growing pantry needs.

The pantry’s Board of Directors and its Building Committee are searching for a property which will address the needs of an expanded pantry facility including handicap accessibility, handicap accessible bathrooms, expanded freezer/cooler space, safer working conditions, parking, and ample food storage.

Ideally, the new property will be 1.5 to 2 acres, located within the service area of the current pantry. The pantry boundaries include USH 151 on the east, CTH H on the north, CTH G on the west, and STH 23 joining USH 151 in the town of Taycheedah on the south.  Access to a well, septic system, and a county road are desirable.
