Patriotic Pen contest deadline set for Oct. 30

The 2020 Patriotic Pen competition is under way.

The entry forms were passed out to each of the local schools the first week of September. The competition is open to all sixth through eighth grade students in the Kiel Area School District, private schools, and home-schooled students in the Kiel Area School District.

This year’s theme is “What is Patriotism to Me?” The challenge for the writers is to express their personal beliefs on the issue. The essays need to be between 300 and 400 words. The title of each essay must be this year’s theme. Each essay is judged on the writer’s knowledge of the theme, punctuation, typing errors, and spelling. Any essays over the allowed word count will be disqualified.

The deadline for each entry is Friday, Oct. 30.
