Patriot's Pen contest underway

The 2021 Patriotic Pen essay competition will begin soon.

The entry forms were passed out to Kiel area schools the first week of September. The competition is open to all sixth through eighh grade students in the Kiel Area School District, private schools, and home-schooled students living in the KASD.

This year’s theme is “How Can I Be a Good American?” The challenge for the writer is to express his or her personal beliefs on the issue. The essays need to be between 300 and 400 words. The title of each essay must be this year’s theme. Each essay is judged on the writer’s knowledge of the theme, punctuation, typing errors and spelling. Proof reading essays before submitting is stressed. Any essays outside the 300 to 400 word count will be disqualified.

Contestants are only allowed to enter once. The deadline for each entry is Friday, Oct. 29.

Application forms and rules are available at local schools or by calling 920-894-7177. Direct any questions about the contest to Rosie Mitchell at that number.
