A biker gang rolled into Kiel last Thursday, but this group was not sending anyone running away in fear.
Dressed in their neon green T-shirts bearing the name of their informal club—the Scooter Hooters—this group of primarily 60-year-old-plus women have been drawing waves, beeps, and smiles from passing motorists in the greater Calumet County area since 2005.
Gladys Michels, Doris Bennin, and Monica Knauf are the only original riders still participating, but a number of other women have joined the group over the years. Last Thursday about a dozen of them reached their destination of Parker John’s restaurant around 12:15 p.m. to enjoy lunch together. Some arrived by car as they no longer drive a scooter, but the majority came buzzing down Service Road right on schedule for their gathering.
