Attorney Jim Ungrodt has announced that he is retiring from his Kiel law practice effective immediately.

Ungrodt, 76, said he is not taking new clients and is only finishing up a few things for existing clients. “I don’t think I have too much in process right now,” he said.

Ungrodt said he had hoped to continue to practice until the middle of next year but that some recent medical challenges are causing him to close his practice at 317 Fremont St. at this time. “I just want to let people know that I haven’t forgotten about them,” he said. “I wish I could do something differently but I can’t.”

After graduating law school in Madison in 1969, Ungrodt worked for a father-and-son law firm in Oshkosh for three years. Knowing his chances of advancement in that family firm were minimal, Ungrodt said he saw a newspaper advertisement which someone in Kiel had placed about the community’s desire to have a full-time lawyer here. He and wife Jackie movied to Kiel on Aug. 1, 1972 and bought the home in which they still live on Aug. 20 of that year. The couple has two grown sons, Chris who resides in Sheboygan and Tim who lives in Milwaukee.
