Arden Mogenson

Arden (Arkie) L. Mogenson, 88, of Kiel passed away peacefully early Sunday morning, Nov. 6, 2022 at Aurora Summit Medical Center in Waukesha County where he had been cared for over the past two weeks.

Arkie was born to the late Vance and Grace (Pingel) Mogenson on April 7, 1934. He was raised in Tigerton where he had become a promising baseball player for the Tigerton Tigers baseball team at the young age of 13. The family later moved to Kiel where he met the love of his life Shirley A. Dedering and they were united in marriage on Sept. 1, 1956 at St. Peter’s UCC, Kiel. Shirley preceded him in death on March 20, 2020 after 63 years of marriage.

Arkie joined the U.S. Army in July 1957 and became a switchboard operator while stationed in Baumholder, Germany for 18 months. He remained active with the Army Reserves after his time overseas. During his career in the Army, he was promoted to training officer for the artillery unit, later advancing to executive officer 1st Battalion with his final promotion being to major in 1974 assigning him to the brigade headquarters out of Milwaukee. He retired with over 20 years of service to the country of which he was very proud.

Arkie was employed as a foreman in assembly with Tecumseh Products in 1951 and remained there for 43 years until his retirement. He was also an active member of Bethel United Methodist Church, Kiel.

Arkie had a passion for living life to the fullest and threw himself completely into anything that he was truly interested in. Be it traveling (especially Branson & Hawaii), Corvettes, Harleys, Skydiving (hundreds of jumps registered), flying airplanes, guns and becoming a mentor and instructor to others regarding many of those passions over the years. However, Arkie’s biggest passion of all time was most definitely Shirley and his family.

He is survived by his daughter Renee (Mike) Gordon of Plymouth; two grandchildren: Tyler Gordon of Sheboygan and Kristyn Fritsch of Plymouth; one great-grandchild: Bryce Gordon; brothers and sister Donald (Betty) Mogenson of Kiel, Delilah Mogenson of New Holstein, Dale (Patricia) Mogenson of Kiel; and brother-in-law Gilbert (Marion) Dedering of Kiel. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives, friends and his very special neighbors.

A celebration of life will be held on Thursday, Nov. 10 from 4 p.m. until 6:45 p.m. with a brief memorial service at 7 p.m. at Meiselwitz-Vollstedt-DeTroye Funeral Home, 815 Sixth St., Kiel.
