Cheri L. “Ethel” Steffen, 50, of New Holstein died Sunday, Oct. 25, 2020 at Ascension Calumet Hospital in Chilton.
She was born Dec. 17, 1969 in Chilton, daughter of Jim and Carol (Bonlander) Schleh.
Cheri along with her dedicated partner and love of her life, Al Muehlbauer, owned and operated Ethel’s Pub & Grill. They started this business adventure in Chilton and expanded to further locations in Brillion and Kiel. Previous to Ethel’s Pub & Grill, Cheri worked for several years at M&I Bank in New Holstein.
Cheri had a warm and inviting smile as you walked through her doors. Always a “hello,” “we can make that work,” and “it’s all good” attitude as she bartended or took your order around the table. She was always everywhere, serving in multiple locations, being bartender, tending to tables, and was one fantastic force to be reckoned with in the kitchen. She brightened up every room she came into and made sure to create a lot of fun at gatherings with the people she loved and cherished. The whole Ethel family and team will greatly miss Cheri, her work ethic, and smile.
Cheri’s pride and joy were her children Caden and Anna. She enjoyed going on adventures with them or just spending a night in snuggling and watching Hallmark movies. She also adored her grandsons.
With a giving heart, Cheri locally supported several organization around Calumet County. Near and dear to her were the Chilton and Brillion fire departments, New Hope Center, and American Legion. She was a small town business owner who loved to give back and support many organizations in the community. Cheri was also an active member of both the Calumet and Manitowoc Tavern Leagues.
She will be especially missed by her love and dedicated partner in life, Al Muehlbauer; siblings Dawn Van De Kreeke and Paul Schleh; her children, Caden Steffen, Anna Muehlbauer, Amanda (Kevin) Spatchek, Kylie (Ross) Helein, and Dylan Muehlbauer; her grandchildren, Owen, Aaron, Luke, and James; parents Jim and Carol Schleh; nieces Ashley and Coral; nephews Dylan and Tegan; other relatives and many friends.
