Doris Schueler

Doris H. Schueler, 91, of the town of Meeme died peacefully on Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2022 with her children by her side at Willowpark Place in New Holstein.

Doris was born Sept. 9, 1931 in the town of Newton to the late Edward and Lydia (Heckman) Karstaedt. She attended Elm Grove Grade School and Valders High School.

On Sept. 26, 1953 she married Wilmer Schueler at St. James United Church of Christ, Spring Valley. He preceded her in death on Oct. 11, 2019.

Doris farmed alongside Wilmer on his family’s homestead all of their married life. She also was a cook for a short time at Meeme Elementary School.

Doris was a member of the School Hill Homemakers for 53 years, the American Legion Auxiliary-Franklin, the Manitowoc County Farm Bureau where she served as a chairlady and an active member of St. John’s United Church of Christ, especially in the Women’s Guild. Doris enjoyed knitting, reading and crossword puzzles.

Doris is survived by her children Steven (Debbie) Schueler of Cleveland and Linda (Richard) Rabe of Kiel; five grandchildren: Matthew (Ashley) Schueler of Cleveland, Tiffany (Shawn) Sickich of Glenbeulah, Andrew (Cassandra) Schueler of Cleveland, Ryan (Molly) Rabe of Valparaiso, Indiana; and Lisa (Corey) Hofacker of Kaukauna; great-grandchildren Taylor, Owen, Bryce, Madilyn, Lorelei, Myles, Brenna, Lydia and Lola; and two step-great-grandchildren: Cainen and Sophie.

She is further survived by sisters-in-law Janet Schueler and Leone Karstaedt; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband Wilmer; parents; three brothers: Howard (Olive) Karstaedt, Orville (LaVerne) Karstaedt and Gordon Karstaedt; three sisters: Grace (LeRoy) Olm, Jeanette (Harold) Thornam and Delores (Adrian) Scheidt; two brothers-in-law: Niles (Beatrice) Schueler and Orlin Schueler; and one stepsister: Vivian (Richard) Szczepkowski.

Funeral Services for Doris will be held at 6 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 3 at St. John’s UCC - Schwarzwald—W3401 Orchard Rd., Elkhart Lake—with the Rev. Melinda Feller officiating. She will be laid to rest next to her husband in the church cemetery.

The family will greet relatives and friends at the church on Monday from 3 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. where an American Legion Auxiliary Service will be held, followed by the funeral service.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Robert Remington for the care he gave Doris over the years as well as Willowpark Place, Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice and the Vince Lombardi Cancer Center for all the care and compassion shown to their mother during her most recent illness.
