Joseph Meyer

Joseph H. Meyer, 84, of Kiel passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Friday, March 31, 2023 at Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice in Sheboygan Falls.

He was born March 23, 1939 in Kiel to the late Henry and Margaret (Wagner) Meyer. Joe was baptized and confirmed at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Kiel. He graduated with Kiel High School Class of 1957.

Joe served honorably in the Army.

On June 23, 1962 he married Mary Agnes Steffes at Holy Cross Church in Mount Calvary. Joe owned and operated Milky Manor Dairy Farm.

Joe enjoyed traveling with Mary, attending card club for 60 years, spending time with family and friends at Wolf Lake, listening to polka music, playing Sheepshead, gardening and treating his grandchildren with donuts at every visit.

Joe enjoyed serving his community and church in many ways. He was the current chairman of the town of Schleswig, was an elected official on the Kiel Area School District Board of Education for 24 years including 10 years as president, was a lifetime member of the Kiel Area Jaycee’s and served as Parish Finance Chair at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Agnes; six children; 15 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild: Randall (Jennifer Janovy) Meyer of Edina, Minnesota and their children Olivia Janovy Meyer and Hans Janovy Meyer; Linda (Bart Lambert) Meyer Lambert of Olean, New York and their children Michael Lambert and Jade Lambert; Barbara (James) Scheiber of Howards Grove and their children Sarah Scheiber (Lucas Oxtoby), Rebecca Scheiber and Jack Scheiber; Joseph (Deanna) Meyer of Germantown and their children Ethan Meyer and Owen Meyer; Lisa (Brian) Crist of Shawnee, Kansas and their children Nicole Crist and Carter Crist; Daniel (Becky) Meyer of Kiel and their children Ashley Meyer (fiancé Logan Paschke), Brittany (Jayson) Kohlmann, Melissa Meyer (fiancé Shae Ruelle) and Andie Meyer; his great-grandson, Grayson Kohlmann; his sisters and brother, Mary Ann (Gerald) Menne, Charles (Pauline) Meyer and Lucy Ann Meyer, FSPA; and his brothers-in-law, Leo (Agnes) Steffes and Eugene Steffes; and sister-in-law, Karen Steffes.

Joseph is preceded in death by his son, James; his parents; his father-in-law, Edwin Steffes and his mother-in-law, Catherine Steffes; his sister, Agnes Mayer; his brother-in-law, Richard Mayer; and his brother-in-law, Alfred Steffes.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, April 5 at 10:30 a.m. at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, 423 Fremont St., Kiel. Visitation will be held Tuesday, April 4 at Meiselwitz-Vollstedt-DeTroye Funeral Home (815 Sixth Street, Kiel) from 4 until 7:30 p.m. with a wake service at 7:30. The family extends a sincere thank you to the caregivers at Aurora Medical Center Sheboygan County, Willowdale Nursing Home, Rocky Knoll Nursing Home, Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice and Kiel Ambulance along with the many wonderful friends and extended family who have reached out to Joe and Mary.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund will be established in Joe’s name.
