Mary Michels

Mary J. Michels, 92, formerly of Kiel, died peacefully on Saturday, April 17, 2021 at Willowdale Health Services in New Holstein.

Mary was born March 20, 1929 in Hoven, South Dakota, daughter of the late Frank and Armella (Schwind) Frost. She attended St. Anthony School in Hoven. On July 12, 1966 she married George J. Michels in Hoven, South Dakota. George preceded her in death on Dec. 25, 2016. Mary enjoyed reading, bird watching and tending to her garden. She looked forward to her time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her two sons, Vern (Sue) Michels, Robin Michels, grandchildren Jake Michels (Jonna King), their children Tanner, Anna, Natalie and Tony, Jessica (Eric) Hartenberger, and their children Harley and Dana; and Zack (Theresa) Michels and their children Bryson, Baylor, Bennett, Camden and Easton. Mary is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, George.

Cremation has taken place. The funeral service for Mary will be held at 5 p.m. on Thursday, April 22 at Meiselwitz-Vollstedt Funeral Home, 815 6th St, Kiel. Officiating at the service will be Deacon Bernard “Pat” Knier. Mary will be laid to rest next to her husband at SS Peter & Paul Cemetery.

Family and friends may gather at the funeral home from 3 p.m. until the time of service at 5 p.m.
