Peter Woelfel

Peter J. “Pete” Woelfel, 84, of Kiel died Tuesday, March 16, 2021 at Willlowdale Health Services in New Holstein.

He was born Dec. 2, 1936 in Charlestown, son of the late Peter C. and Amelia (Bruckner) Woelfel.

Pete proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1956 until 1959. Following his honorable discharge, he married Patricia Hoerth on Oct. 15, 1960 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Chilton.

He had worked on the family farm for over 20 years before joining Lamers Bus Lines where he remained until his retirement 25 years later.

Pete was a member of the Quinney Fishing Club since 1974, enjoyed going ice fishing and deer hunting and loved to bowl with his wife in couples league. Casino trips around the state were frequently planned by Pete, but his favorite place to go was in Michigan. He also loved to play sheepshead and never passed on a game with the entire Woelfel clan. Above all else, Pete was the biggest fan of his grandchildren and would travel all over the countryside with Pat catching sporting events and their extracurricular activities.

Survivors include his wife Pat; daughters Chris (Richard) Kuehnl and Cheryl (Kevin) Tungate; sons Michael (Dawn) Woelfel, Brian Woelfel, and Robert (Susan) Woelfel; son-in-law Daniel Hauser; eight grandchildren, Master Sergeant Jason (Chani) Kuehnl, Justin Kuehnl, Jordan Kuehnl and his special friend Maggie, Aaron Anuszuewski and his special friend Christine, Tanya (First Lieutenant Nick) Salewski, Taylor Woelfel and fiancee Lindsey, Zachary (Samantha) Woelfel, and Alec Woelfel and his special friend Emily; six great-grandchildren, Abigail, Jayda, and Landon Kuehnl, Dexter Anuszueski, Edwin Salewski and Gracie Lyn Woelfel; his siblings, Terri Meier, Marvin Woelfel and Steve (Judy) Woelfel; and a sister-in-law, Cleta Woelfel. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Peter was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Janet Hauser; his siblings, Martin (Marie) Woelfel, Herman (Sally) Woelfel, Sister Fran Woelfel, Mel (Isadore) Steiner, Betty (Archie) Reiser, Vince (Lydia) Woelfel, Al Woelfel, Mildred “Chibby” (LaVerne) Daun, Lori Boll; a brother-in-law: Al Meier; and a sister-in-law, Marcie Woelfel.

Funeral service will begin at noon on Saturday, March 20 at the Wieting Family Funeral Home, 411 W. Main St. in Chilton. Burial will follow in the St. Mary Catholic Cemetery in Chilton. Friends may call at the funeral home from 9 until 11:45 a.m. on Saturday, March 20.
