Rev. Harold Berryman

The Rev. Harold L. Berryman, 89, of New Holstein entered eternal life on Jan. 22, 2021.

Father Berryman was born Jan. 2, 1932 in Flint, Michigan to Lewellyn T. and Evelyn C. (Smith) Berryman. He had one brother and one sister.

He attended high school at St. Joseph Seminary, Grand Rapids, and then St. Nazianz Seminary, St. Nazianz. He entered St. Francis Seminary, Milwaukee, where he earned a degree in philosophy and theology. Bishop Stanislaus V. Bona ordained him to the priesthood on May 31, 1958 at St. Francis Xavier Cathedral, Green Bay.

Father Harry’s first priestly appointments were as assistant pastor of Immaculate Conception Parish, Luxemburg, and then St. Peter Church, Oshkosh. In 1961, he was appointed chaplain of the Newman Center of Oshkosh. His next assistant pastor position was at St. Matthew Parish, Green Bay. His first appointment as a pastor was of St. Mary of the Lake Parish, Lakewood, where he served from 1968 to 1970. Fr. Harry served many parishes in the diocese including St. Patrick Parish, Green Bay; St. Mary Church, Manitowoc; St. Bernadette Parish, Appleton; St. Ann Parish, St. Anna; and Holy Rosary Parish, New Holstein. He was granted senior priest status in 2011.

The Funeral Liturgy, expressing our faith and our hope in the promised glory of the Lord’s Resurrection, will take place at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 27 at Holy Rosary Parish, 1724 Madison St., New Holstein. The Most Rev. David Ricken will preside and the Rev. Thomas Reynebeau will be the homilist. Burial will be immediately after the Mass at Holy Rosary Cemetery in New Holstein.

The visitation for Father Berryman will be held at the Sippel Funeral Home, 2618 Altona Ave., New Holstein on Tuesday, Jan. 26 from 4 to 7 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Visitation also will be held at the funeral home Wednesday morning, Jan. 27 from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.
