Robert Gutschow

Robert L. Gutschow, 86, of Kiel, died peacefully, surrounded by his family, Sunday, July 4, 2021, after a 3-month battle with cancer, at Caring Hands Assisted Living Facility in New Holstein. Bob was born June 5, 1935, in Manitowoc County, to the late Norman and Eldora (Mathes) Gutschow. He graduated from Kiel High School in 1953. Bob served his country in the United States Army parachute patrol. On October 12, 1957, he married the former June A. Sohn at St. James United Church of Christ Church, Spring Valley. She preceded him in death on October 8, 2012. Bob was an owner/operator over the road truck driver for numerous years before retiring from Glacier Transit in Plymouth. During his retirement, he worked for numerous car dealerships delivering cars.

Bob enjoyed tinkering with golf carts and lawn mower tractors in his retirement. He enjoyed volunteering with the Kiel Lions Club for their casino events. He liked sitting in the yard in summer, visiting with people who stopped. Bob also enjoyed polka music and attending the Jerry Schneider Band, every Saturday morning tuning into the radio, dancing, camping and traveling with his wife, June. He looked forward to his mornings with his coffee gang and spending time with his family.

Survivors include his children, Sue (Mike) Lider, Gary (Tami) Gutschow, Randy (Laurie) Gutschow, Patty (Steve) Lutzke and Kevin (Gina) Gutschow; his grandchildren, Jason Lider, Dennis (Heather) Lider, Bryan (Lisa) Gutschow, Bradley (Elyssa) Gutschow, Brett (Ashley) Gutschow, Brandon (Andrea) Gutschow, Jamie Lutzke (Kyle Heinrich), Jesse Lutzke (Erin Konen), Madyson and Kaylee Gutschow; his great-grandchildren, Ellie Rose and Brayden Lider, Austin and Autumn Gutschow, Natalie Gutschow, Breeley and Isabella Gutschow, Kolt Heinrich; his sister, Gloria (Orville) Valenstein; brother-in-law, Kenneth (Barbara) Sohn; sisters-in-law, Dianne (James) Koenig and Jeanette (Edward) Johnson. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents, Norman and Eldora Gutschow; he was preceded in death by his wife, June, grandson, Craig Gutschow, father-in-law and mother-in-law, Roy and Mildred Sohn and brother-in-law, Ronald Sohn.

Private family services were held. Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 8, 2021, at Meiselwitz-Vollstedt Funeral Home (815 6th Street, Kiel) from 4:00 pm until 6:00 pm. Entombment will take place at Greenlawn Memorial Park. Please visit www.meiselwitzfh.com to send online condolences.

The family would like to thank, Green Bay Oncology as well as the staff at St. Elizabeth Hospital for the care given to Bob; Sharon S. Richardson Hospice for the wonderful care given to him, especially Kristin and Kim. They would like to acknowledge the wonderful caring staff at Caring Hands Assisted Living, especially Tammy, Mary and Tom for Bob and his family in his final days.
