Sylvia DeGrand

Sylvia F. DeGrand, 83, of rural Kiel died peacefully at her daughter’s home in New Holstein on Friday, April 29, 2022 with her family by her side.

Sylvia was born March 12, 1939 in Ashland to the late Aloysuis and Frances (Neaveaux) Arbuckle Sr. She was a member of the Bad River Tribe in Odanah where she attended grade school. Her family moved to Manitowoc during grade school, where Sylvia graduated from Manitowoc Lincoln High School. On July 6, 1996 she married Rick DeGrand at Bethel United Methodist Church. He preceded her in death on Dec. 8, 2016. Sylvia was employed with Mirro before starting at Tecumseh from which she retired after 39 years. Sylvia was an avid reader and could be found watching the Green Bay Packers and a good NASCAR race. She enjoyed all of the birds and wildlife that could be found on her property, making sure all of the birds were well fed.

She is survived by her children, Leslie (Francis) Bigboy, Peter (Wendy) Moya and Wilbert Moya; grandchildren Joshua (Rachel) Abhold, Matthew Kramer, Tyler Rockow, Melissa Moya, Jessica (Ryan) Phiel, Francis Bigboy Jr., Bridgett Bigboy, Cory Borgwardt and Ashley Borgwardt; and numerous great-grandchildren. Sylvia is further survived by sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Ann, Katherine, Patricia and Marge Arbuckle, Ross (Diane) and Kerry DeGrand; the father of her children, Avelino “Pete” Moya; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Sylvia was preceded in death by her husband, Rick DeGrand; parents; and brothers Eugene, Aloysius, Patrick, Leslie and Bruce Arbuckle.

Per Sylvia’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life will be held at The Wake House, Odanah Cemetery in Ashland County, on Saturday, May 14 at 11 a.m. She will be laid to rest next to her husband.
