David Suttner is gone, but the Brillion/Valders/ Chilton boys swim team still has a very veteran look this winter. The depth is a concern, but BVC should be a challenger in the conference.
The BVC boys swimming preview:
BRILLION/VALDERS/CHILTON BOYS SWIMMING
Head Coach: Eli Shaver
2021-22 RECORD: 3rd place at Eastern Wisconsin Conference Championships; Two individual state qualifiers and two state qualifying relay teams.
2021-22 REVIEW: David Suttner added two more conference titles to his record winning the 100 and 200 yard freestyles. He qualified for state in both events winning a sixth place medal in the 200 and just missing another with a seventh place effort in the 100.
The 200 medley relay team of Jack Shaver, Alex Hein, Bryce Van Rooy and Bryce Hedtke was 13th at state and the 200 freestyle relay of Suttner, Van Rooy, Hedtke and Buechel, also placed 13th.
Shaver, son of head coach Eli Shaver, was the last one to compete. He took 16th in the 100 backstroke.
2022-23 PREVIEW: All state qualifiers, except Suttner, return. That includes Shaver, Hein, Van Rooy, Buechel and Hedtke. Also returning are Timber Schuler, Tarik Schneider and Michael Rickert.
BVC, with 13 on their pre-season roster, should be able to challenge defending Eastern Wisconsin Conference champion Door County United (Sturgeon Bay) as Door County was hit hard by graduation.
SEASON OPENER: BVC hosted a season opening triangular last week at the Chilton Middle School pool where they edged out defending Eastern Wisconsin Conference champion Door County United by one point for second place. Green Bay United won with 129.5 points to 87.5 for BVC and 86 for Door County. The lone win for BVC was the 200 yard freestyle relay team of Gavin Buechel, Bryce Van Rooy, Timber Schuler and Bryce Hedtke.
