Some dreams do come true.
It did for Stockbridge’s Zach Daun.
The senior forward sent his Stockbridge Indian boys basketball team to a level never reached before in school history scoring on a lay in just before the final horn sounded giving Stockbridge a harrowing 50-48 win over Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah in a WIAA Division 5 Regional Championship game before a frenzied crowd Saturday night at Stockbridge High School.
It is the first time in Stockbridge school history that an Indian basketball team has qualified for WIAA sectional play. They join Hustisford, Shullsburg and Barneveld with seedings and pairings to be determined Sunday for semifinalplay this coming Thursday.
“You dream when you play basketball in your driveway as a kid that some time you will make a game winning shot,” said Daun, who led all scorers with 19 points.
“The play was actually going to go to Aaron Bunnell,” added Daun.
The ball did come to Bunnell, who was double-teamed at the free throw line and then passed off to Daun streaking wide open down the lane.
“All I thought about was putting the ball in the hoop,” said Daun in closing.
