We have come down to the final weekend of East Shore League regular season baseball and things have tightened up as Johnsburg suffered another loss last weekend. Mount Calvary is mathematically alive for the last playoff spot, but need some major help, otherwise the four playoff teams are pretty much set.
Howards Grove 11 Johnsburg 7
Home runs by Taylor Struve and Ashton Holzman lifted Howards to this huge win. Zac Cain added three hits, Nic Koenig two hits and Andrew Reinemann had a double. Austin Edge got the win. For Johnsburg, Cooper Olson went deep while Carter Voelker and Dominic Probst had two hits.
Forest 4 Chilton 1
Alec Lemke pitched well, but Chilton came up just short of posting its first win of the season. Michael Kolbe had two hits and Grant Mauer doubled. Koy Walsh backed up winning pitcher Trevor Ranthum with two hits.
St. Cloud 5 St. Peter 2
The Skeeters are on the verge of the playoffs with a three-run win. Winning pitcher Cade Christensen was backed up offensively by Mitch Waechter and Travis Immel with two hits and a double by Luke Gellings. Jake Schneider hit a home run for St. Peter with Benton Deanovich having two hits and Tim Snow a double. Jason Schneider pitched well in defeat.
Cleveland 7 Mount Calvary 6
The Wildcats dealt the Crusaders a huge blow to their playoff hopes. David Esswein crushed a home run, as did Jake Woolsey with Tim Salm collecting three hits for winning pitcher Alec Danen. Kaine Mertens and Hunter Petrie had two hits for MC.
Seven games dot the ESL schedule on this final weekend. Saturday has St. Cloud at Forest and Mount Calvary at St. Peter in 12:30 starts while Cleveland welcomes Chilton in a 1 pm make up game.
A doubleheader on Sunday at Marytown has St. Peter and Marytown playing at 10:30 am followed by a Mount Calvary-Marytown clash around 12:30. Chilton is at Johnsburg (12:30 pm) and Cleveland at Howards Grove (1 pm).
