Kiel Raider

Kiel Activities Director Steve Walsh has stepped up to the plate in a very big way.

Finding host schools for post season WIAA events can be an arduous task.

Such is the case in finding a host school for the upcoming WIAA Division 2 Individual Sectional.

The WIAA, the governing body of Wisconsin high school athletics, was desperate for someone to host the individual wrestling sectional for this part of the state. When no one stepped up, Steve Walsh did.

“It really meant that if you had no host, then you have no post season opportunity,” says Walsh.

“I did it for the kids!”

Already scheduled to host the WIAA Division 2 Regional the week before, Kiel will also host the WIAA D2 Individual Sectional for the first time ever.

It is a monstrous task as representatives from over 20 schools will invade KHS on Saturday, February 6, for the all day event that determines what wrestlers advance to state the following week. Schools that will feed into the Kiel Sectional are these from the following regionals: KIEL REGIONAL- Kiel, Chilton/Hilbert, New Holstein, St. Lawrence Seminary, Howards Grove/Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah, Plymouth and Sheboygan Falls; LACONIA REGIONAL- Laconia, Campbellsport, Lomira, Mayville, North Fond du Lac/St. Mary’s Springs, Ripon and Waupun; GRAFTON REGIONAL- Grafton, Kewaskum, Lake Country Lutheran, Greendale Martin Luther, Milwaukee Pius XI and Waukesha Catholic Memorial; DELEVAN-DARIEN REGIONAL- Delevan-Darien, Walworth Big Foot/Williams Bay, Clinton, East Troy, Somers Shoreland Lutheran and the co-op of Racine St. Catherine’s/Racine Lutheran/Burlington Catholic Central.

With so many wrestlers, limited seating and COVID restrictions, the only way to see this event is to volunteer.

Walsh will be looking for several volunteers to serve as table workers, runners, or other meet duties. The meet is slated to start at 10 am and usually runs until 7 pm.

Thank You to Steve Walsh for offering to host and contact him at Kiel High School, (920) 894-2263, or by email ( if you would like to help out.
