NH GBB Letter Winners

These girls return for New Holstein girls basketball. Cami Guelig, Grace Schisel and Jess Diedrich.

Corbin Thompson is the new varsity girls basketball coach at New Holstein. Pundits aren’t giving the Huskies much of a chance, but that’s just fine with Thompson. He says, “I guess we’ll just fly under the radar screen.”

The Huskies are young, but could be the best kept secret in the area.

Here is the 2020-21 NH girls hoops preview:

COACH: Corbin Thompson (1st season)

2019-20 RECORD: 3-20 overall; 2-12 Conference (7th place).

2019-20 REVIEW: Both conference wins came over Chilton. The Huskies had three Honorable Mention All-Eastern Wisconsin Conference selections in seniors Molly Steffes and Olivia Ondrejka, along with freshman Grace Schisel. Hannah Graf, Kaitlin Watson and April Kienbaum were other seniors.

2020-21 PREVIEW: Thompson coached a highly successful New Holstein JV team last season and is very familiar with his players led by the return of sophomore Grace Schisel. NH has just two seniors in letter winners Jess Diedrich and Cami Guelig. Joining them are juniors Lauren Danes, Ava Heise, Karly Schmitz, Sally Schaefer, Erika Bertram, Maddy Boehnlein and Brianna Guelig. Joining Schisel in the sophomore class are Ava Cady and Alyssa Woelfel. The Huskies may also have some exciting freshmen contributors.

As far as the conference race goes, defending champ Valders, along with Kiel, Brillion and Manitowoc Roncalli look to be strong. New Holstein may be the surprise team.

The new JV coach is former New Holstein standout Brittni Buechel while former Kiel boys hoops star Trent Nickel joins the Thompson staff as an assistant.
