It wasn't your usual start to a game as Sheboygan Falls sank a pair of technical foul free throws for a 2-0 lead due to a scorebook infraction, but that's about the only thing that went wrong for New Holstein as they shook off a slow start to post a relatively easy 59-36 Eastern Wisconsin Conference girls basketball victory over the Falcons Friday night at NHHS.
Sophomore Grace Schisel had five of New Holstein's eight three-pointers for a game-high 20 points as the Huskies moved to 4-2 overall and EWC, the best start for a New Holstein girls team since the 2010-11 team featuring Tara Zipperer and Chelsi Cash went 5-2 to start the season.
Coach Corbin Thompson's squad looks to equal that 5-2 start when they host Campbellsport Monday night.
In a wild finish to the JV game, New Holstein held a nine-point lead with four minutes left before having to finish the game with just four eligible players. Brillion rallied to take a 36-34 lead with seven seconds left before Ava Cady sank a three-pointer from the right corner as time expired giving New Holstein a 37-36 victory.
Brillion was the JV opponent as Sheboygan Falls JV are under COVID quarantine.
