As promised by the WIAA, there will be a post season for area high school football teams.
First round games were announced early Saturday morning in what the WIAA is now calling a "culminating event" instead of a "playoff series" as schools will play either one or two games.
All three local schools are within the Division 4 pool with Chilton and Kiel in the same grouping while New Holstein was sent south.
Friday night, Kiel, the top seed in its four-school group, hosts Valders at Fifrick Field while second seeded Chilton welcomes Oostburg to Morrissey Field. Both games kick off at 7 pm. The two winners meet the following Friday at the site of the higher seeded school.
New Holstein is a three seed in its regional and plays number two Marshall at a neutral site. That game is Saturday at 1 pm at Fall River High School's new football facility. The other teams in this regional are number one seed Watertown Luther Prep and fourth seed Wautoma. Winners also meet the following Friday at the higher seeded school.
Losing schools this weekend will be allowed to play another game, if they wish.
