The Prairie School of Racine is a veteran of state championship games and that experience was evident Saturday night as the Hawks jumped on top early and cruised to a 4-0 win over St. Lawrence Seminary in the championship match of the WIAA Division 3 Boys Soccer State Tournament at Kewaskum High School.
A breakdown in the Hilltopper defense just over two minutes in allowed for a Prairie OWN goal.
SLS had several attacks only to be turned away by Hawk goalie Devin Stoltenberg who had ten saves in the match. Max Gamino of St. Lawrence made four saves.
It was the seventh state title for Prairie School tying them with Whitefish Bay for second place on the list of team state titles. Milwaukee Marquette is tops with 14.
St. Lawrence was making its first WIAA State appearance. Dave Bartel has been the only soccer coach the school has ever known. He has 316 career wins.
"It will take awhile for the sting to go away," said Bartel.
"But tomorrow we'll think back to what a special season this was. It's your goal to finish the season in the state championship and we did that."
