Kiel Raiders

Talk about a team effort, Kiel got it Friday night.

The Raider defense turned back Wittenberg-Birnamwood twice in W-B territory in the first half and then turned to its offense and special teams to rally for a 16-6 win at Wittenberg in a WIAA Division 5 Level 1 football playoff game.

The ball literally bounced the Chargers way in the second quarter when quarterback Nathan Waupekany's pass went through the hands of the intended receiver and into the hands of a very shocked secondary receiver Keegan Benbo for a TD. The point-after kick was blocked.

Kiel answered right back.

Connor Faust nailed Harrison Zorn for a 70-yard scoring. Tate Hartlaub's PAT kick made it 7-6 Raiders and it stayed that way until the fourth quarter. Faust scored from a yard out making 14-6 and then the Raider special teams forced a bad snap on a Charger punt that sailed out of the end zone for a safety. Kiel then ran out the clock.

Kiel, the number six seed, improves to 6-4 and Wittenberg-Birnamwood, the three seed, ends 8-3.

The Raiders advance to a Level 2 game next Friday night against a familiar foe. They will play at Kewaunee, the number two seed. Kewaunee rallied past Kiel in the season opener two months ago, 28-21, in Kewaunee.
