Geneva Hewitt was too hot to handle.

The senior guard for Winnebago Lutheran Academy erupted for 28 points as the Vikings rallied in the second half for a 57-49 girls basketball win over Kiel last week Tuesday night in Fond du Lac in the season opener. Hewitt hit on three three-point field goals and was 7-10 from the free throw line.

Kiel led 33-28 with just under 14 minutes left when Hewitt led a WLA rally.

Raider coach Jeremy Bushman was disappointed in the loss, but saw a lot of positives as well saying, “After our scrimmage at Oostburg, I was concerned. But this was night and day different. We learned a lot about our team tonight against a very talented team.”

Emma Adleman led Kiel with 16 points and Jocelyn Aprill added 13. Kiel also got a surprise effort from freshman Coryn Fromm who came off the bench and hit two three-pointers in the first half on her way to eight points.

There was no junior varsity game.
